The Health Minister of Canada, Deb Matthews, has announced her decision of attempting to compete for the Ontario Liberal leadership, an option which will cost her premier’s chair and a $209,000 salary.

The London MPP made the announcement on Wednesday claiming that health care system is indeed in a severe need of a “steady hand” as revolution is on going to keep costs in line and improve service. She was talking to the media at the Health Achieve hospital at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, when she declared that “after much thought I’ve decided the biggest contribution I can make is to stay right where I am.”

According to unconfirmed sources, Matthews is still planning to run in the next Ontario election, which is most likely going to take place in next spring. Just three weeks past Premier Dalton McGuinty’s surprise resignation, Mathews had been giving clear hints to media that she is all ready and set up for a campaign of Liberal Leadership, but as it turns out she was still hustling to make a final decision at a personal level.

Incase Matthews, who is the sister-in-law of former premier David Peterson, had officially announced a contrary decision of competing for Liberal leadership, she would’ve most likely faced more scrutiny for her overseeing the health ministry in the ORNGE air ambulance scandal. Progressive Conservative Leader, Tim Hudak, claimed that no leader of with candidacy of McGuinty’s cabinet can dodge responsibility for ORNGE and other turmoil like the eHealth Ontario debacle. Hudak claimed that “they were all there” and “they all looked the other way when the ORNGE scandal developed.”
