A resident of Duncan died on Wednesday morning by getting hit by a rock while he was driving on Highway 18. Victim was going towards Lake Cowichan when suddenly a rock dropped from the back of a logging truck that was travelling in the opposite direction, and crashed through his windshield.

After examining the scene of accident, RCMP Cpl. Darren Lagan declared once the driver was hit by the rock, the other passenger in the car tried her level best to reduce the effect of already a tragic blow. He claimed that “the information which we have suggests the passenger intervened to safely pull the vehicle off to the side of the road” and “her actions certainly helped to stop her from being injured, and pulling that vehicle to the side of the road, and stopping anyone else from being injured.”

The emergency crew of the highway was quickly called on to the scene and begun treatment of the driver, after which he was shifted to the Cowichan District Hospital, where he ultimately passed away after some time.

The identity or any further information of the 52-year-old unlucky driver has not been released to the press yet. The incident reportedly took place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday near to the Skutz Falls turn-off. The local Police Department and the BC Coroners Service are still investigating the incident, while Lagan states that they are trying to track down the driver of the logging truck who did not remain at the scene.
