The NHL and the NHLPA have hustled endlessly in efforts to save the hockey season. However, the results of their recent one after another bargaining sessions are yet to be seen.

This Friday, representatives of the league and the players’ association are going to meet for the fourth straight day and fifth time in the week, in attempts to find a common ground to agree on for ending the lockout. A spokesperson for the players union shared that multiple meetings are scheduled to take place today, discussing collective bargaining matters. Both the parties gather earlier on Friday than the previous days, perhaps they have understood the urgency as the 55th day of lockout continues to pass on without any result.

The league has already announced the cancellation of regular 327-season games, including the New Year’s Day Winter Classic in Michigan, and declared that a full season is not possible now. In case the league and association are unsuccessful in finalizing a deal soon, the NHL might be losing another full season to lockout for the second time in seven years.

The Commissioner of NHL, Gary Bettman, and Executive Director of Players’ Association, Donald Fehr, gave a combined press statement on Thursday night after the session ended. Neither shed any light on the details of the agenda or progress of the bargaining sessions. Fehr noticeably did however mention that “I am not going to characterize it except to say, as I have before, that it’s always better when you’re meeting than when you’re not.”
