The Hockey Hall of Fame media conference was held on Monday morning for honoring and remembering four marvelous hockey careers of all times, although the ceremonious celebrations were dimmed as the issue of NHL lockout entered the conversations.

The Former captain of Leafs, Mats Sundin, informed the reporters on Monday morning during the Hall of Fame ceremony that “this is a great celebration for hockey, but as a player, and more importantly as a fan, we’d all like to see hockey back as soon as possible.”  The lockout has sadly reached third month without a possible solution so far. The lockout seemed to be the key topic of discussion for all the inductees, which included Sundin, Adam Oates, Pavel Bure and Joe Sakic.

Sundin mentioned that “I’ve been part of a cancelled season” and “the NHL is the driving force of hockey in the world. We need it back to keep building this game around the world.”

Oates was also affected by the lockout as the native Ontarian had scored a coaching job in Washington, just before confirming his place in the Hall of Fame, all within a 15-minute span last June. Oates shared his thoughts saying that “I think we’re fine as coaches, we’ve been preparing for a while now . . . There will be a short window for the players, and I think it will be harder on them.” He discussed the lockout by saying “It’s obviously tragic, a work stoppage is tough for all walks of life . . . auto workers, carpenters, you name it. I hope they figure it out soon for all of us.”
