The notorious libel trail of Rob Ford will be heard by the Ontario Superior Court Judge John Macdonald today, and the things are definitely not going Ford’s way.

The Toronto Mayor and coach of the Don Bosco Eagles football team, has been sued for $6 million by a 53-year-old businessman, George Foulidis, who has seemingly casted a spell on the City of Toronto. Foulidis regained his agreement, for the second time, of a 20-year lease from the city for running a restaurant on major waterfront parkland, which is owned by the municipality.

For the first tenure of his lease, Foulidis responded to a Request for Proposal (RFP) from the city, but now he recently retained it for a second tenure, signed two years ago and due to expire in 2030. Apparently Foulidis put forward a spontaneous proposal, which was magically agreed on the same day. The procedure did not endure any competing bids because the city council, ignoring the hostility of its own staff for not implementing the standard procedure of tender contracts, approved Foulidis’s proposal.

Now Foulidis said in the hearing on Thursday, that “I followed the process that was available to me. I didn’t create it.” He alleged: It’s a great synopsis: If the deal stinks, as Ford and others have said, the guilty party is the city.

Now Rob Ford, who was campaigning for the top job in city at the time along with his competitor Bruce Baker of 2010 municipal election, made assumptions about this lease deal publicly without any evidence, which is now forming the base of a strong lawsuit by Foulidis.
