The Ottawa Carleton District School Board, better known as OCDSB, has announced that it has mutually reached a tentative two-year agreement with the local high school teachers. This agreement was reportedly finalized on early Thursday morning, so consequent job action of teachers is scheduled to be suspended from 8 a.m. onwards on Thursday.

The Director of Education for OCDSB, Jennifer Adams, explained that the teachers are now going to be free and resume their volunteering duties for all extracurricular activities. Both of those actions were a part of an organized legal protest against the latest bills of provincial government regarding anti-strike and wage freeze, which were put into effect in September. This alleged agreement still needs the approval vote from the government and trusties, which is yet due but will most probably be affirmative.

Proper details and terms of the agreement have not been released to the press, as teachers claim that they have to vote on the new deal to make it final, which will come after the ministry and the school board approval. The union has asserted that this deal is quite similar to all other agreements signed in Ontario in recent weeks. The local president of the Ontario Secondary School Federation, Dan Maxwell, believes that teachers are going to be happy with the terms of the deal.

OCDSB still has six other bargaining units to deal with, including office staff, custodians and educational assistants. Five of these six groups are still in an ongoing legal strike as the negotiations continue.
