The third man arrested and accused of the alleged headlining illegal confinement and sexual assault case of a teen in Nova Scotia has been granted bail.  63 years-old John Leonard MacKean, of Lower Sackville, N.S., was recently arrested on Monday in Fredericton. He is indicted with charges of sexual assault and communicating with the purpose of obtaining sexual services from a person under 18.

This Thursday, MacKean, who is a longtime employee of the Halifax Chronicle Herald newspaper, was granted bail from the court on $1,000, informed his lawyer Mike Taylor. Taylor elaborated that his conditions of his release included that he remains in Nova Scotia, except for work purposes, and he refrains from using the Internet or text-messaging devices, unless for work purposes. He added that MacKean is ordered to stay away from children under 18, with the exception of his grandchildren, who he is able to see only if an adult is present. The next court date is set for Jan. 23.

A 16-year-old half naked boy, chained at the ankles and wrists, was discovered in September in Upper Chelsea, N.S. Police found out that the boy was kidnapped from the streets of Halifax, driven to a remote shack and repeatedly raped before he escaped eight days later. The two originally identified suspects were 31-years-old Wayne Alan Cunningham and 47-years-old David James Leblanc. Cunningham was found dead on Oct. 3, whereas Leblanc was arrested and is facing several charges, including kidnapping, forcible confinement and sexual assault.
