The announcement of competing in the race to Liberal Leadership has come from a seventh candidate, namely Harinder Takhar, who officially declared his intentions to replace Dalton McGuinty as Ontario premier and leader of the province’s Liberals. Takhar was initially elected to the provincial legislature in 2003, and now he has declared to resign from his post as a minister of the government as of Thursday.

Takhar made the announcement through his official Facebook fan page on Thursday, and he also shared that he is practically going to kick start his campaign from Saturday onwards. The previous post of Takhar will be replaced by Dwight Duncan, who will add it to his current job as the Finance Minister of Canadian Government. The statement posted on Takhar’s Facebook fan page asserted that he has spent several weeks consulting with people in Ontario and he has now found out “what renewal means to them.” He added that “in conversations with these grassroots Ontarians, it has become clear to me that the bulk of their concerns centre around their ability to provide opportunities for their families to succeed in these times of economic uncertainty.”

The six previous announcements of decision to enter the race towards McGunity’s post have been made by Kathleen Wynne, Glen Murray, Charles Sousa, Eric Hoskins, Sandra Pupatello and Gerard Kennedy. The last date for submitting the forms for entering the leadership contest is scheduled to be this Friday. Premier McGuinty announced his resignation on Oct. 15.
