As NHL players association and league owners apparently get more and more distant in their positions during the lockout, the NHL has cancelled even more games on Friday. Now the new split has come on games till Dec. 14, along with the Jan. 26-27 all-star weekend in Columbus. Hence, so far a sum of 422 regular-season games, i.e. 34.3 per cent of the season, has been affirmatively cancelled off from the schedule.

While making the announcement, the Deputy Commissioner of NHL, Bill Daly, stated that “we feel badly for NHL fans and particularly those in Columbus, and we intend to work closely with the Blue Jackets organization to return the NHL all-star events to Columbus and their fans as quickly as possible.” The hopes of NHL fans are still dwelling over a season play off, as they see a shortened season is still much better than no season at all, as Daly and NHLPA Legal Counsel Steve Fehr had a brief one on one meeting on Friday.

Daly alleges that he has “always” been open to the idea of mediation as means to solve the dispute, but he just isn’t sure that it is the best path to resolution. Whereas, on the other, Fehr states that if “we moved a couple of miles, they moved a couple of inches,” refusing to be convinced with an unsatisfactory deal.  Fehr clarified that no a new offer is now going to come from the players.
