The local police of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia have successfully made an arrest of the suspect who allegedly killed a 75-year-old Canadian tourist from P.E.I. Colin Peter was walking, along his wife, on a beach near their resort, almost two weeks ago, when he became collateral damage to a robbery. He was beaten so bad that he passed away in the hospital on Nov. 19.

The Police Commissioner, Vernon Francois, announced on Sunday that St. Lucia police has been in pursuit of suspect for more than a few days now. Francois announced on Sunday that “It essentially came to a head yesterday, when we were able to apprehend the suspect” and “he was taken into custody and has since cooperated with law enforcement in terms of recovering some of the items belonging to the gentleman in question. I’m confident we should be able to charge him with murder.”

Francois shared that the police has recovered a camera that was stolen during the robbery. The identity of the suspect is being kept secret, until he is charged on Monday or Tuesday. Furthermore, Francois explained the event of Peter’s death was a “crime of opportunity,” saying that St. Lucia is indeed still a safe destination for tourist. It was revealed that the suspect was a 26-year-old man, who was arrested not too far away from crime scene. Peter was visiting the island for researching his family tree. He owned Montague Office Supplies in P.E.I. and had three adult children.
