Doug Ford, the elder sibling of Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford, has come to the rescue of his embattled brother yet again. Doug proposed that the best solution of this current situation, while avoiding litigation at the City Hall, is to find out the public’s decision by voting.

Coun. Doug Ford made the proposal on Thursday morning before the city council budget meeting. Doug mentioned that “there’s going to be one mayor and that’s him right over there, OK?” He added that “in my opinion we want to go to the polls — very simple, let the people decide.” Rob Ford has been busy motivating his legal team to come up with a strategy of appealing against the devastating ruling announced on Monday ordering to vacate his offices because he was found guilty of violating a municipal conflict-of-interest law. The Justice Charles Hackland’s decision precisely gave the Mayor two weeks after which he will have to leave his offices.

A legal filing against the decision was submitted by Ford’s legal team on Wednesday posing that the decision shall at least be kept on hold until their appeal is processed. The documents submitted to the court specifically read that “It cannot be right that the democratic process and the democratic will should be denied for a period of another few months while the appeal is being heard and decided.” Mayor Ford has already made a claim yesterday promising that he will be the first candidate of the byelections, if the things come to it.
