Prime Minister Stephen Harper and aboriginal leaders were not able to completely converse on every matter during the meeting on Friday. Hence, prime minister Harper and national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Shawn Atleo, have scheduled to meet again later in few weeks to supplement the “high-level” discussions.

The post-meeting statements on Friday were almost identical both from Harper’s office and Atleo’s office, about the meeting held in Ottawa in the midst of noisy demonstrations and protests taking place right outside the venue. In an official statement after the meeting, Atleo, mentioned that “we have achieved some movement today,” while talking about Harper, he said “for the first time, provided a clear mandate for high-level talks on treaty implementation.” Harper and Atleo have shaped as leaders spearheading the development in the official meeting, while on the other hand Theresa Spence remains a controversial northern Ontario chief who is currently still observing hunger strike.

Theresa Spence has turned out to be representing her own set of leaders, arranging a meeting with Gov. Gen. David Johnston. Spence was joined by almost 150 chiefs, representing the First Nation, during a meeting with the Queen’s representative in Canada on Friday night at Rideau Hall. Even after the meeting Spence’s spokesperson, Danny Metatawabin, declared that “sadly the hunger strike continues because I didn’t feel that honour, I didn’t feel that privilege.” He alleged that Spence and her supporters have walked out of Rideau Hall before the closing ceremonies, because “somehow, it felt like a show.”
