Montreal police cautiously pierced through the door of an apartment on St. Laurent Boulevard, which was assumed to have had an armed man held up but turned out to be empty. A SWAT team and at least one ambulance was present for standby, when the apartment turned out to be completely empty, without any suspect or weapon. The traffic on Sherbrooke St, which was halted and converged around the area for almost 10 hours, was quickly restored soon after.

The police previously acquired a search warrant before entering the apartment. Police claims that reports told that an almost 30-years-old suspect had allegedly uttered verbal threats of violence, nearly an hour before midnight, and later the armed suspect took control of the apartment in the 3700 block of St. Laurent, just north of Pine.  The Police asserts to have made a cellular contact with the suspect once during the night. Constable, Daniel Lacoursière, explained that “he was uncooperative.”

The next day, Constable Yannick Ouimet admitted that “we are not certain he is there.”  St. Laurent was shut down for routine traffic from Sherbrooke to Roy Sts., between St. Urbain and St. Dominique Sts., until almost until 10 a.m. The police was informed of the incident after the suspect uttered verbal threats and entered a dispute, around 10:55 p.m., about which Const. Ouimet confirmed that the argument “ended up in a 911 call concerning threats.” When inquired if the suspect has a history of police record, Const. Lacoursière stated that so far the “we are still not certain of his identity.”
