After winning his job-threatening judicial appeal on Friday, Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford took a leap and made a vey daring announcement, promising that he will keep his position at City Hall for the upcoming six years, making an overly self-assured prediction of winning the 2014 election. This daring declaration provoked outrage among Ford’s council critics, while his supporters could not stop applauding.

Rob Ford was informed of winning his appeal against the conflict of interest case, which almost ousted him from office in November, almost two hours earlier while he was still in his lawyer Alan Lenczner’s office. The news was communicated to media sources by another lawyer, while Ford was witnessed getting a “big hug” from his brother, Councillor Doug Ford, as there were “handshakes all around.”

On the other hand, the complainer of Toronto who dragged mayor to court, Paul Magder, and his pro bono lawyer, Clayton Ruby, refused to speak with reporters outside Ruby’s office. An official statement from Ruby’s office promised to ask the Supreme Court of Canada for leave to appeal hinting Ford’s court fight may not be over yet. In the official post-winning press conference of Mayor Rob Ford at City Hall, he mentioned that this whole trial “has been a very, very humbling experience.” He alleged that “I have enormous respect for the judicial system and I’m very, very thankful for the decision it made today.”
