After experiencing one of the most significant victory in her political career, Ontario’s newly elected premier Kathleen Wynne has gotten straight to business today. Wynne has now become the first female premier of Ontario after winning the Liberal leadership race on Saturday, after which she clarified her goal as to attempt to work in coalition with the opposition parties.

Wynne is anticipated to have scheduled a meeting with NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, as she already conversed briefly with Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak over the weekend. During her first news conference as Liberal leader on Sunday, Wynne alleged that Ontarians are not in favor of an election and that she will make it a priority to work with the minority government. On the other hand, the opposition parties do not seem as eager to collaborate with the new leader, as Tories have already launched attack ads asserting that Wynne is “another Liberal Ontario can’t afford.”

The New Democrats stated that Wynne will not be able rectify previous mistakes of the government in the recent past, which include imposing contracts on teachers, cancelling gas plants for political gain and a police probe of the Ornge air ambulance system. Responding to the statement, Wynne affirmed that she is prepared to acknowledge these problems and ready to deal with them. She showed hope and intended to repair the government’s relationship with public school teachers, though she did mention that she also wants the teachers to resume extracurricular activities.
