Justin Trudeau’s campaign revealed on Sunday in the latest episode of ongoing series of debates, i.e. the fourth and second-last of all, that it has attracted 150,000 new supporters to the party. Sunday was the last day for candidates to register new supporters, who will be allowed to vote for the upcoming leader in addition to the already card-carrying members.

Even though Trudeau had the largest number of new candidates registered for the upcoming party elections, he did not endorse the idea of winning the first ballot. He mentioned in front of the media, that “people can say all sorts of different things, because the fact is it’s never been done this way before.” The figures of newly registered members was publicized just a few hours before a candidate, Marc Garneau, targeted Trudeau during Sunday’s debate in Halifax, as he accused the widely perceived frontrunner of avoiding the big-ticket platform issues.  Garneau questioned regarding Trudeau that “I believe that Canadians want to see substance. They don’t want empty words.” He added that “they may not like what I have to say, but at least they will know where I stand.”

Trudeau boasted that he is proud of the ongoing high-level, positive campaign has been operating so far, while adding that he has been “just as specific” as any other contenders. He elucidated that almost all Liberals are aware of his views concerning numerous issues, including his support for the legalization of marijuana and his opposition to the Northern Gateway oil pipeline.
