After the widespread insinuation, and a tweet, that the Canadian Taxpayers Federation will not be one of the parties invited at the Alberta budget lockup, the advocacy group was reassured on Wednesday that it is indeed welcomed at the gathering. The lockup is when the media, opposition parties and other organizations are allowed to get a sneak peak of the budget before being handed over by the finance minister.

The Alberta director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), Derek Fildebrandt, complained about the situation in a tweet on Tuesday, asserting that Finance Minister Doug Horner’s office has excluded the group from the budget preview. Fildebrandt’s tweet stated that “If we have to climb in a window, tunnel through the basement, or go in with an opposition party, the CTF will find a way to be at the budget.” In response to that tweet, the opposition Wildrose Party opnely invited the CTF, along with other alike groups including the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, for joining their deputation at the lockup.

However, now on Wednesday Premier Alison Redford informed the vice president of communications at CTF that his group is invited to Thursday’s lockup. Premier Redfored tweeted, saying that I “just spoke to Scott Hennig, told him CTF is welcome at budget lock-up. We’re focused on the budget and welcome their continued input.” Acknowledging that informed, Fildebrandt stated in response that “we welcome the government’s reconsidering of its position and look forward to being in the budget lockup.”
