Yukon organizations undertake projects with Arts Fund suppor

Eleven organizations will be undertaking arts-related projects in the coming months with $131,580 contributed through the Arts Fund.

“Every new season brings creative energy and an abundance of arts activity throughout Yukon,” Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor said. “Projects funded by the Arts Fund include festivals, camps, performances, workshops, productions and residencies to inspire participants and entertain audiences. Each of these projects represents many diverse communities and interests, ensuring that the arts remain a vital part of our social well-being and community development.”

The Arts Fund encourages activities by communities, arts collectives, non-profit groups and First Nations in the performing, literary and visual arts. The applicant-driven program is adjudicated four times a year by the Yukon Arts Advisory Council.

This July, the Persephone Singers will be attending the Kathaumixw International Choral Festival in Powell River. This invitational festival is highly competitive, with only 30 choirs from around the world being selected to participate.

“It is truly an honour for the Persephone Singers to be selected for this festival, and a tribute to Barbara Chamberlin whose leadership has brought the choir to such a high level of performance,” Kathaumixw organizing committee member Jan Horton said. “Thanks in part to the support of Arts Fund, we will be part of an international gathering of choristers who have all successfully competed for the opportunity to attend the festival. Competing and singing with these other choirs will help bring the Persephones to a new level of excellence, which will be shared with fellow choir members and Yukon audiences on our return.”
