The suspect accused of murdering and dismembering a Chinese foreign student was forced to wipe away tears as he drew in severe emotions on Thursday, while more evidence was being presented against him at a preliminary hearing.

Luka Rocco Magnotta had previously remained overly calm and emotionless during the four days of recent ongoing hearing in court, as he usually sat with arms folded and listened attentively without any emotions. Although this Thursday, he gave up to his emotions and was seen wiping away tears as a Montreal police investigator provided evidence to court. Magnotta, shackled in a fortified prisoner’s box in the high-security courtroom, lifted his hand up to his mouth for rubbing away tears from under his eyes covered with pair of glasses. 30-years-old Magnotta is charged with first-degree murder of a Concordia University engineering student from China, Jun Lin, last May. Magnotta has been charged with four more charges related to the case. The evidence being heard at the hearing is subject to a publication ban. Another homicide investigator testified on the same day as well.

A British journalist, Alex West, was also subpoenaed by the Crown in the court too. West reports for the Sun newspaper in England and had been currently staying in Montreal to cover the hearing, when he was asked to testify in court. Darin Lin, victim’s father, had also returned to court this morning, as he previously left the courtroom mourning in tears earlier this week. The Lin family is especially visiting Canada for honoring their relative’s memory and to follow the legal proceedings.
