Quebec Liberal leaders are convening once again, after a long time, to hold their leadership convention this weekend, that has not taken place since the acclamation of Jean Charest in 1998. An estimate of almost three thousand delegates are expected to arrive in Montreal to attend the mega event. Even though, Philippe Couillard is seen as the front-runner, he is still anticipated to have a challenging fight.

The three candidates opting to succeed Jean Charest as Liberal leader are developing their strategies to convince fellow delegates, whereas the campaigning is expected to take place over this weekend. Even though Philippe Couillard is an apparent front-runner, leadership hopeful Pierre Moreau asserts that there is still hope for him too. Moreau pointed out that “politics is all about people and you have to care about what people are thinking.” Raymond Bachand, the third contender competing for the position, has consistently criticized Couillard’s association with a killer currently wanted for arrest, namely Dr. Arthur Porter. Bachand, showing off having no scandal of himself, stated that “there have never been any questions on my integrity. There’s no controversy on my ethics.”

In case there is need for a second ballot on Sunday, Bachand and Moreau have collaboratively planned to work together in attempt to defeat Couillard. In response to the criticism of his opponents, Couillard claims that “I’ve never made any problems in saying that I knew Arthur Porter,” and affirmed that “he was a very good acquaintance of mine, a friend you could say.”
