Southern Quebec faced yet another blow of winter with heavy snowfall on Tuesday, it was confirmed that more than 10 cm of snow had already fallen before dawn, whereas an additional 10 to 40 cm of snow might was further expected to fall before the storm passed through. A weather forecaster predicted that Montreal and the St. Lawrence Valley will likely witness snow accumulation around 20 to 30 cm, whereas the Eastern Townships might see a total of 50 cm of snow on the grounds until the storm passes.
On Tuesday, wind blew at a substantial speed of 50 km/h, encircling the snow everywhere, making it extremely difficult for drivers to travel in the morning. Transport Quebec confirmed that several accidents took place in the morning rush hour due to cars and trucks sliding off the road or into each other. The heavy snow also resulted in the delay of trains and buses, as passengers complained that several trains arriving in Montreal were stuck on the tracks for 20 to 40 minutes. The AMT confirmed that its Lucien L’Allier station was overcrowded, resulting in the east-bound trains to be slow while departing the station. On the other hand, long-distance bus lines, including Orleans Express, were reportedly making all the trips so far, however, they might also have to cancel in case the situation gets worse.
Quite similarly, several flights coming in and going out of Montreal’s Trudeau airport were also delayed or cancelled. Generally, the flights for anywhere from Chicago to the Maritimes were shortly delayed, whereas some flights headed to heavier snow areas, including Minneapolis, Boston, Toronto and Ottawa, had to be cancelled.
