The Vancouver based Lululemon Athletica Inc. recently admitted to have unknowingly mixed up thousands of apparently see-through yoga pants, resulting in the company facing a worldwide shortage of its iconic hip-hugging bottoms. A statement published by the company on Monday afternoon, entitled “Black Luon Pants Shortage Expected,” said that “we have determined that certain shipments of product received from our factories … do not meet our technical specifications.” Within several hours after the announcement, the company’s stock price slid by more than 7%.
It was revealed that the defective pants were being mixed up in to Lululemon stores since March 1st. Surprisingly enough, the store claims that “the ingredients, weight and longevity” of the pants remained the same. In sight of the incident, a conference call held on March 11th among the company’s store managers, executives informed them to remain cautious and keep a high level of “sheerness” (transparency) in some of their black women’s bottoms. The company reported to have been recalling the overly-revealing pants from stores and showrooms stores from all over the world through weekend, and a company estimation predicts that almost 17% of all black women’s bottoms had been affected by the recall.
The FAQ’s on the company’s website claim that the styles affected are “concentrated in our tighter fitting silhouettes in women’s black luon bottoms.” The company admits that some of the overly-revealing pants have already been spread out into the ecosystem, although it is offering a complete refund to recover those articles. Lululemon straightforwardly ensured all customers that every defective pant will be recycled.
