Fire in East Gwillimbury Home Claims Four Lives

A recent report has confirmed that four people passed away during a fire incident at an East Gwillimbury home on early Friday morning. The fire struck out at a residence on Howard Avenue near Leslie Street and Mount Albert Road at around 5:30 a.m. The Police Const. of York Regional, Blair McQuillan, informed that all four people victims were alive at the time when emergency crews arrived at the scene, although they were trapped inside the home. She added, that soon after they gave up to their injuries.

McQuillan informed the reporters on Friday morning, that “police were the first to arrive on scene and there were four individuals in a room at the front of the home who were unable to get out. At that time police tried efforts to extract the individuals. Fire also soon attended the scene and also tried to extract the individuals.” She further added that “unfortunately they were unable to do so and four individuals succumbed to their injuries inside.” Even though the relationship between the victims has not yet been officially verified as yet, neighbors claim that a family of four was living in the home.

The Mayor of East Gwillimbury, Virginia Hackson, informed reporters on Friday, that it was a “sad day” for the entire community. Hackson alleged that “it is a very difficult day for us as we mourn the loss of four residents.” Additionally, she alleged that “our prayers and our thoughts go to the community, the firefighters and the family that has had this loss today. It’s a very sad day here in our town.”
