The situation really heated up at the Ontario legislature’s justice committee hearings into cancelled gas plants on Thursday, when the Liberals pointed fingers at the Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak’s wife, who was involved in one of the project’s developers.

The motion presented by Liberal Bob Delaney was voted out by both The Tories and New Democrats, which asked to instruct Deb Hutton to provide with all documents and correspondence associated with her work for TransCanada Enterprises. Delaney mentioned that “she is entitled to seek employment and we pass no judgment on that,” but “what we wanted to find out was there any correspondence between her and TransCanada on matters that pertain to negotiations with the government of Ontario, and that is a sensible act of due diligence.”

On the contrary, both opposition parties blamed the Liberals of playing games by going after Hutton. PC energy critic, Vic Fedeli, stated that “they have no desire to actually get to the truth,” in fact “these little games that they play, I think people are sick and tired and pretty darn fed up with this nonsense from them.” Whereas, The New Democrats also alleged that the Liberals were attempting to dig up dirt by asking for Hutton’s correspondence with TCE. NDP energy critic, Peter Tabuns, mentioned that “we weren’t set up to be a fishing expedition to go after everyone’s personal records.” He added that “the Liberals were just playing bully boy with their resolution to go after Deb Hutton.”
