30-year-old Joe Azougar was viciously attacked by a bear on Saturday outside his home in northern Ontario. Azougar had recently moved to Cochrane, Ont., i.e. a small town northeast of Timmins. He stated that the bear advanced without warning, he informed CTV Northern Ontario that “out of nowhere, this bear came just charging.” He explained that “(my) German shepherd jumped on him and they started wrestling so I go back in my house and start making a few phone calls and making noises and things like that so he would disappear.”

However, regardless of Azougar’s efforts, the bear continued approaching him and eventually caught up to him almost 40 metres away and near a road. Azougar alleged that the bear hauled him by the head into the bushes, and added that “literally from my head, the skin that’s hanging off, he had it in his mouth and he’s dragging me.” Furthermore, Azougar stated “I knew I was going to die that minute. That was the end of me. That’s it.”

However, Azougar explained that two women who were camping nearby came to his rescues, successfully scaring away the animal. He stated that “out of nowhere, these two ladies, two angels, show up in a car and the bear just runs away.” Consequently, the two women shifted Azougar to a hospital, where he was treated for extensive lacerations on the back of his head, left shoulder and his back where the bear had grabbed him. He alleged that “if it wasn’t for them, my family would be attending my funeral today, probably, so thank you for saving my life.”
