The news of a video allegedly showing Toronto’s Mayor, Rob Ford, smoking what seems like crack cocaine has caused a great fuss in the media. The news of such video, which has not been obtained or presented by anyone, was confirmed by Toronto Star and the editor of the U.S. gossip website, Gawker.
It was alleged by Toronto Star that two of it reporters have witnessed the video, namely Robyn Doolittle and Kevin Donovan. In the report of Doolittle, she stated to have had witnessed the video three times by Somali men in the back of a car of a source which allegedly demanded “six figures for the video.” Doolittle writes that “the men were clear that they want the money for it. And we know that they have spoken with American outlets.” She alleged that “they wanted six figures for it and we did not pay it.”
On the other hand, the editor of the U.S. gossip website Gawker, John Cook, has also confirmed to have been approached by someone trying to sell the video. Cook assured to have decided not to purchase the video. The validity, authenticity of the video and credibility of the source still remains a question mark. Meanwhile, Ford’s lawyer, Dennis Morris, denied all allegations, asserting that “I don’t know whether or not such a video exists, but I think it would be fair for the public to see such a video and make their own conclusions.” Morris added that “I can tell you he denies the allegations.”
