Almost a week after serious allegations surfaced against Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford having been caught on video smoking crack cocaine, he is now expected to face media outside Toronto City Hall today. So far the ashamed mayor has evaded being in the spotlight after the allegations were made by a U.S. gossip website, Gawker, followed by a report in the Toronto Star late last week. However, the authenticity of the video has not been confirmed be either source. In the only brief comments made after the allegations, Ford mentioned on Friday that the allegations are “ridiculous.”

In light of recent allegations, Ford and his brother Coun., Doug Ford, unexpectedly cancelled their weekly Sunday radio talk show, while the mayor has remained successful in staying away from the media on Victoria Day long weekend as well. However, now Ford is anticipated to attend a special council meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, where the councillors are expected to discuss a proposed downtown casino.

Mayor Rob Ford, who was otherwise a major supporter of the project, last week threatened that the debate shall be considered “essentially dead,” if the city is not promised a hosting fees of $100 million a year. Ford had learnt that the city might only get about $53 million a year for hosting such a facility. Consequently, the casino proposal is predicted to be shelved today, as the mayor announced last week that the hosting a gaming facility was “dead,” unless a hosting fees of least $100 million a year was guaranteed in revenue for the city from the province.
