The second suspect in police custody for the death of Tim Bosma is scheduled to appear in court today, where he is anticipated to enter plea for charges of first-degree murder. 25-year-old Mark Smich was arrested by Hamilton police while walking at Dorval Drive and Wyecroft Road near his home at Oakville, Ont. on Wednesday, which is the same day when more than a hundred people gathered to participate in Bosma’s memorial service. Smich is currently under the custody of Hamilton Police and will be making a court appearance on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
32-year-old Bosma was found to have disappeared from his Ancaster, Ont., home after taking two alleged buyers of his pickup truck on a test drive. Almost a week long manhunt to find Bosma ended with sad news, when police announced to have found Bosma’s charred remains at a farm in the Waterloo, Ont. area. The primary suspect, 27-year-old Dellen Millard, was arrested at the time and charged with first-degree murder, forcible confinement and theft of a vehicle.
Hamilton Supt., Dan Kinsella, revealed to the press on Wednesday that Millard and Smich are suspected to have known each other, though he did not elaborate on their relationship. Kinsella assured that police is now confident there is no more continued threat to the public. Smich was previously arrested by Halton police last year, and according to the record, he was caught spray-painting an overpass. Millard is now scheduled to make a court appear via video conference on June 13.
