Police is suspecting carbon monoxide poisoning to be the cause behind a couple’s death, including 56-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, in Burnaby, B.C. Reports confirm that two bodies were found lying inside a trailer at about 7 p.m. PT on Sunday in the Edmonds area of Burnaby. Investigators have alleged that so far no foul play is suspected, whereas the couple is suspected to have been killed by carbon monoxide caused by a leak from a propane-powered generator.

RCMP Insp. Tim Shields revealed that the man failed to reach his workplace on Sunday, which led to the discovery of the bodies. He explained that “his work called the next door neighbour who went and knocked on the door and looked in through a window and saw the bodies lying there.” Shields added that “it appears that this death is accidental although the cause of death will be determined by the coroner but we’re not looking at any foul play at this point.”

Even though carbon monoxide poisoning is not as common as it was in the past, the Canada Safety Council still finds it to be the leading cause of fatal poisoning in North America. The general manager of programs of the council, Raynald Marchand, alleged that the only method to be preventive of carbon monoxide poisoning is to install a detector.  He elucidated that “where you need to have it really is in the mast bedroom where the parents are sleeping because it’s usually when you sleep that this killer comes along and you don’t notice is because you’re sleeping.”
