The announcement of resignation by two member s of Stephen Harper’s cabinet has vacated two more seats for an anticipated shuffle in the Conservative members in the senate. The Leader of Government in the senate, Senator Marjory LeBreton, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Americas and Consular Services, Diane Ablonczy, both announced to have resigned from their positions. Ablonczy further revealed that she does intend to run again in 2015 federal election.

It is foreseen that Mr. Harper is preparing to considerably reorder his cabinet in shape of a mid-mandate shuffle that will aid him during next election campaign. 73-year-old Ms. LeBreton was appointed to the Senate in 1993 by former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in light of services rendered by her in capacity of Mr. Mulroney’s deputy chief of staff and appointments director. LeBreton has also worked for John Diefenbaker, Robert Stanfield and Joe Clark.

Ms. LeBreton mentioned in the press release that “after almost seven and a half years, I have advised the Prime Minister of my intention to step down as Leader of the Government in the Senate.” She thanked Mr. Harper for giving her the opportunity to serve in his government and “most of all, I want to thank him for his trust, his strong leadership and his friendship.” LeBreton was recently tasked to defend the government over a scandal involving two of Mr. Harper’s Senate appointees, namely Mike Duffy and Pamela Wallin.
