Astronaut Chris Hadfield visited the University of Calgary this Saturday morning as a guest speaker to share his experiences of living in space for five months. It was Hadfield’s first public presentation since his recent elaborative tour to the International Space Station in May. Retired colonel answered questions and queries of all children and adults alike.

Majority of questions asked from the iconic Astronaut were themed on the curiosity regarding the physical effects of being in space, like what happens when you sneeze? What happens to your bones? Whereas, others were in the direction that lead Hadfield to explain his feeling when he was preparing to leave for a trip from which he might not have returned. He explained of having spent several years to make sure that he has done things he wanted to do and said goodbye to all friends and family. He stated that “that way, the biggest emotion in blastoff is relief.” Answering other queries regarding what it takes takes to be an astronaut, Hadfield answered that it takes three things, namely exceptional physical health, ability to learn complex concepts quickly and strong decision-making skills.

Hadfield is accredited as the first Canadian to have commanded the International Space Station. He is a more well-known celebrity due to his huge social media presence through a host of tweets, photos, videos and interviews. He had reached Calgary on Friday to participate as parade marshal for the 101st Calgary Stampede. Hadfield returned to Earth in May aboard a Soyuz capsule and landed in the steppes of Kazakhstan.
