A fire in Vancouver townhouse enforced the residents to evacuate as it engulfed the entire third-story unit on Sunday. Emergency call was made to fire crews about an incident at a house near Marquette Crescent and Champlain Street at round 1 p.m. Vancouver fire battalion chief, Peter Bridge, explained that the “stubborn” fire started on the roof.

Mr. Bridge explained that “it got up into the attic spaces where there are staggered roofs. The fire was crawling its way down the attics.” He elucidated that “we had to pull a lot of walls down, we had to change personnel very fast. The heat inside and the heat outside is really hard on our systems.” Additionally, Bridge reported that the incident did not result in any injuries and that he was glad to see the majority residents were able to evacuate on their own.

One of the residents living in the building, Enoch Tee, reported to have first seen the smoke emerging on the patio, asserting that the fire suddenly escalated after that. He mentioned that “when the flames started erupting, it was coming in the windows and coming through the walls.” Tee further added that “so it was definitely inside and the flames went up about five feet high from the roof, pretty large flames.” Investigators have begun inspecting the incident for any clues which could lead up to the cause of the fire. It’s unclear whether anyone was inside the unit at the time when the fire started.
