Officers of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society have charged two alleged animal abusers with multiple offences after discovering dozens of dead and even more dying animals on a Tecumseh farm. It was reported that the farm animals that weren’t dead yet were so hungry that they resorted to eating the dead ones.

The executive director of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, Melanie Coulter, stated that “it’s a really horrible situation,” explaining that “so many animals starving to death is something that’s so hard to see. Even the veterinarian that was on scene was clearly upset with what he’d seen. So, it’s hard. There are a lot of animals, and they suffered a lot.” The society undertook an extensive five-month investigation into the situation observed at a farm at 3325 Manning Rd., which ultimately resulted in the said charges. First offender, John Holland, is charged with one count of causing distress to an animal, four counts of permitting distress and three counts of failing to comply with prescribed standards of care for animals. Whereas, Eddie Blake is charged with one count of causing distress to an animal, one count of permitting distress and two counts of failing to comply with prescribed standards of care for animals.

Overall, it was revealed that the humane society officers discovered a total of two ducks, two sheep and 10 pigs dead on the farm. Melanie explained that they had all starved to death, alleging that “some of the animals remaining there had been eating the only food they had available, which was the animals who had passed away.”
