In a much awaited and most significant restructuring of Conservative government, Prime Minister Stephen Harper exchanged eight new faces in his cabinet, out of which four were women, with hope of rejuvenating several significant portfolios.

Several old ministers are expected to hold their position, including Jim Flaherty as Finance Minister, Ed Fast as Trade, Joe Oliver as Natural Resources and Tony Clement as the minister for Treasury Board. These ministers, who have upheld their position during revamp, are expected to sustain continuity while Mr. Harper leaps into the fall as other ministers will probably be only learning their jobs.

After swearing in his alleged “renewed ministry,” Mr. Harper addressed the audience alleging that “this is really the commencement of something I told all ministers at the beginning of this Parliament. That, in the course of this mandate, I would bring generation change to the ministry. This is an important step forward in terms of that.” He explained that “I think this is a good mixture of some young and promising talent we have in our caucus, and some experienced hands, and obviously we’ll be giving more details of our policy plans when the House returns in the fall.” The primary reason for revamp of such substantial extent was to bring new life to the Conservatives as their popularity reportedly declines in all recent public opinion polls. Especially the recently arisen spending scandal in the Senate and a caucus rebellion has become a major hurdle for the Conservative caucus as they head for the election in 2015.
