The Acting Chairman of the Equatoria State Union of Visually Impaired (ESUVI) in Juba, Anthony Edama has said that the downsizing in Central Equatoria State has already had immense impact on the blind.

“The downsizing of the staffs in the state (Central Equatoria) has affected the staff of our center the visually impaired.” Anthony lamented.

“And we hear the Ministry of Education is going to downsize and I think some of our members are going to be affected too. We want the government to have a rethink on the visually impaired” He continued.

“Our indicators are now showing red because our parking brain machine is broken which enables us to translate the books into the brain. Our center will be doomed if the Ministry (Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare) does not rescue us”, he concluded.

According to the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Peter Sukole Buni the Ministry could not be able to help on the downsizing.

“We are aware of the downsizing but we cannot do something about it. What we can do is to consult the State authorities to consider the handicapped” said Sukole.

The visually impaired were promised 13 million which would be used for the construction of the Rajaf School of the visually impaired but up to now the money is not yet delivered. the Undersecretary said that they are still looking for donors who could fund the construction of the school, but currently they are going to start the construction phase by phase until the finish.
There are 120 registered members of the Equatoria State Union of Visually Impaired of which some are in the Juba University among other learning institutions.

The Government of Egypt through the Consulate in Southern Sudan donated 100 slates, 50 white canes and 50 Abacus to the visually impaired. Over 80 Visually Impaired were gathered waiting for the Minister of Gender and they demanded to be educated on the procedures of the referendum since they are going to participate.
