The body of a missing 46-year-old kayaker from Pointe-Verte has been recovered.

The man’s body was located in the Stonehaven area around 7:45 p.m. on August 11, 2013, by the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, but police do not suspect foul play. The kayaker had been wearing a personal flotation device.

The man had been reported missing to the BNPP Regional Police on August 10, 2013, at approximately 12:50 p.m. after he failed to return from a kayaking trip in the Chaleur Bay. The overturned kayak was located offshore, but not its occupant. The file was turned over to the Bathurst RCMP.

The Canadian Coast Guard, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, ground search and rescue teams from Restigouche and Chaleur, as well as Beresford and Pointe-Verte volunteer firefighters and local fishermen all assisted in the search.

The investigation is continuing.
