Toronto police has announced to offer a handsome reward of $50,000 in exchange of any sort of potential important information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in two historic sexual assault cases. Police record shows that the first assault took place in Vancouver in 1985, while the second one took place in Toronto in 1992.

In a press conference held by Toronto Police on Friday, it was reported that DNA from the cases indicates that they are linked. Det. Ali Ansari, of the sex crimes unit, stated that “forensic DNA analysis linked the cases together and has conclusively shown that the same offender is responsible for both crimes.” Police file shows that the incident took place at around 11:30 p.m. on June 10, 1992, when a 21-year-old woman was walking home in the area of Yonge St. and Balliol St., where a man allegedly followed her into her apartment building. Ansari unveiled that the victim was followed into an elevator where the man pulled out a hand gun and forced her into a stairwell where he sexually assaulted her.

He explained that the victim helped police in creating a composite sketch of the suspect after the incident, though he was never identified and the case went cold. Ansari mentioned during the press conference that “as we know, sexual assaults are under reporter occurrences and there could be other sexual assaults that this person has perpetrated that have not been reported to police.” He added that “fifty-thousand dollars is the icing on the cake and I hope that it will loosen up some lips.”
