New Glasgow Police has announced to have arrested the 19-year-old prime suspect in connection with a Saturday morning stabbing that resulted in the victim, 27-year-old Scott Jones, being paralyzed from the waist down. Police has revealed that the suspect is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, in connection to the attack that took place shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Jones’ long-time roommate, Amy Punke, revealed that he was targeted because of being gay, as he had already discussed having been threatened due to his sexual orientation. Punke alleged that “things that he lives with and what many people live with when they live in fear of not being accepted.” She further added that “I’m still in disbelief and sad that things like this still happen.” Punke explained the crime scene, describing that Jones was out with a group of friends to celebrate a gallery opening in downtown New Glasgow. She elucidated that “two men approached Scott and his friend,” and “one of the men distracted Scott’s friend and the other man came up behind Scott and stabbed him in the back twice and then tried to slit his throat.”
Jones is a well-known church organist and choir director at First Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow. His preliminary report shows that he is now paralyzed from the waist down and is not expected to walk again. A members of his church alleged that “there’s a numbness, there’s a frustration, there’s anger but also there’s a huge outpouring of love and concern right now.”
