Metro Vancouver Police has recently issued several public warnings alerting general public of several incidents that took place over the weekend after unrelated sexual assaults on women in two different parts of the city, including one in which the victim got into a vehicle she mistakenly thought was a taxi.

Vancouver Police Department Constable, Brian Montague, mentioned in a press statement that a North Vancouver woman “was severely beaten and sexually assaulted” after she hailed a taxi in Gastown at about 2 a.m. Saturday and “an older model dark minivan with sliding doors on both sides” pulled to stop. Const. Montague clarified that the vehicle wasn’t marked as a taxi but the 25-year-old woman didn’t realize that until it was too late. He explained that “she flagged down what she believed to be a cab … and got inside,” after which “she was driven to an area in East Vancouver where she was sexually assaulted.”

A public warning has been issued by VPD, which also displayed description of the suspected assailant as an Aboriginal man in the age group from 35 to 39 years, and about six feet tall. Const. Montague urged anyone with information to come forward, while explaining that the suspect can be identified with following features, saying that “he is fat with a big belly, about 230-250 pounds and a shaved head.” In a separate attack at the University of British Columbia at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old female student was assaulted while she returned to her apartment.
