Fugitive Normand Héroux caught after 13 years on the run

On August 12, a joint investigation by the Project Condor Team and Laurentides-Lanaudière-Outaouais Detachment led to the arrest of fugitive Normand Héroux, unlawfully at large for the last 13 years. Héroux was found in the Macaza area in the Laurentians.

Since 1999, Héroux had been using a false identity, living under the name of Richard Petermann. He had been unlawfully at large since 1997 and was wanted under a Canada-wide warrant.

He was serving a four-year federal term for offences including forcible confinement, conspiracy to commit an offence, possession of a weapon, robbery, and failure to comply with a probation order. New charges could be filed against him following his arrest.
 

Project Condor: Tracking Down Fugitives

Since October 2007, a team of RCMP investigators has been busy looking for and arresting persons unlawfully at large, that is offenders who violate their parole conditions. This initiative, dubbed Project Condor, is being led in partnership with the Correctional Service of Canada. Since the initiative was launched, 248 fugitives have been arrested.
