A source close to the Mayor has confirmed that he is truly considering undertaking treatment for substance abuse. The mayor’s lawyer and a long-time family friend, Dennis Morris, revealed that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford made up his mind on Thursday, when a new video emerged of him inebriated and uttering a string of profane threats. Consequently, there has been a bombardment of calls from friends and allies alike for Mr. Ford to get help and take a leave of absence from office temporarily.

During an interview on Friday with The Globe and Mail, Mr. Morris stated that “he’s considering options,” while explaining “and we’ll stay tuned to see what he says in the next few days.” Mr. Ford arrived at City Hall around noon and went straight to his office without paying attention to reporters. He had previously indicated having problems with alcohol and recently made an admission earlier this week of using crack cocaine in a drunken stupor about a year ago, although he insists he is not a drug addict.

At the same time, private radio station NewsTalk1010 mentioned in a statement released on Friday that management, along with the mayor and his brother Councillor Doug Ford, “have mutually determined to conclude” the pair’s two-hour weekly radio show. Apart from that, lawyers defending an accused drug dealer were present in court on Friday, requesting Justice Ian Nordheimer to make police provide them with a copy of infamous videos, allegedly also showing Mr. Ford smoking crack, which was recently confiscated by police.
