One of those personalities who attempted to shop an alleged video showing Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine has alleged that several people in Toronto’s Dixon neighborhood received death threats and offers of cash in exchange of the explosive video. Mohamed Farah, who attempted to broker a sale of the Ford video to several media organizations for weeks, now made bold revelations.
Even though the alleged video never made it to the public eye, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair announced last week that his officers have acquired a copy consistent with descriptions of it from a computer hard drive seized in mid-June raids targeting the Dixon neighbourhood in west Toronto, i.e. not far from the mayor’s home. 33-year-old Farah was among those arrested at the time and charged in the raids, though he was granted bail against five charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition and possessing proceeds of crime.
Mr. Farah confessed that people came in expensive cars in Dixon soon after news outlets stated that the video was available on May 16. He stated that “they were some people in the neighbourhood, I would say people that are in organized crime … that drove in and showed people [a] suitcase of money,” explaining that “[they] said, ‘Hey, look, whoever has the video, put them in contact with us. This is their cash, their money.’” Later, Mr. Farah added that after some time “there were phone calls coming in from people claiming to be ex-military, claiming to be a police officer, saying, ‘Look, if you guys don’t pass the video or find the video, we’ll arrest you guys, or we’ll have you guys executed or some crazy stuff like that.”
