The City of Toronto has recently admitted that it has taken notice, and hence is investigating, the unauthorized use of its logo on a billboard supporting the embattled Mayor Rob Ford. The billboard allegedly appeared on the Gardiner Expressway in the city’s west end on Friday night, soon after which it was removed on Saturday afternoon. According to viewers who caught it on camera and spread it through social media, it read: “We support Mayor Ford” next to a City of Toronto logo.

Moreover, the pictures show that the billboard included a spelling error, which read “Ford = Fiscal Responsiblity (sic)”. Whereas, at the bottom, the billboard referenced a biblical verse: “Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone John 8:7 (NTL)”. Consequently, the image of the billboard was circulated all along social media websites on Friday, since majority was amused and made fun of the typo. Later on Friday evening, City of Toronto staff mentioned in a tweet from their official account that they were notified of the sign and are taking necessary action. It said that “we are aware of the billboard at the Gardiner and Islington and are addressing the unauthorized use of the Toronto logo.” However, it remains a mystery as to who paid for the advertisement.

The citing of billboard ended a calamitous week for Mayor Ford, who finally admitted having had smoked smoking crack cocaine about a year ago while in a “drunken stupor.” The mayor, who is three years into a four-year term, is now facing growing pressure to either resign or take a leave of absence.
