Senior Charged with Second Degree Murder of Roommate

One of the two elderly roommates at a long-term-care facility in the west end has died to become the 51st homicide victim of the year, while the other is charged of his second degree murder. According to Toronto police, 87-year-old Francisco DaSilva was found dead at the time they arrived at Castleview Wychwood Towers, soon after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, in result of a call made by staff to the facility.

81-year-old Francesco Greco, a fellow resident of the home on Christie St. near Dupont, was consequently charged with second-degree murder and now awaits his court appearance in police custody. This is the second incident this year in which one resident at a Toronto long-term-care facility is accused of killing another. Back in March, 72-year-old Peter Roy Brooks, a resident of Wexford Residence in Scarborough, was charged with second-degree-murder and aggravated assault in the death of 72-year-old Joycelyn Dickson and injuries sustained by another 91-year-old resident.

Toronto Police homicide Detective of 13 Division, Ted Lioumanis, was present on the scene at Castleview Wychwood Towers on Saturday afternoon, where he informed reporters that the victim “did suffer trauma to his body,” soon after which he elucidated in a subsequent press release that victim had “obvious injuries to the head.” Lioumanis refrained to discuss how police thinks these injuries were caused, though he did explain that “mental illness may be a factor in this case but we don’t know at this time.” Witnesses were being interviewed by Police at it investigates the incident on Saturday.
