Toronto has been placed under a special weather statement that warns of an upcoming storm that could land several centimetres of snow on the city. A recently issued statement by Environment Canada illustrates that the city will be hit by the outer edge of a winter storm that is headed for the U.S. east coast. Consequently, the statement reveals that a rain-snow mix will begin to fall this evening, allowing it to turn into snow as the temperature drops overnight.

Environment Canada is expecting almost two to five centimetres of snow to fall by early Wednesday morning. Whereas, heavier snowfall amounts are expected in eastern Ontario, where snowfall amounts could hit 15 or 20 centimetres. An Environment Canada Senior Climatologist, Dave Phillips, stated that “in the Toronto and GTA area it is not going to be a major or significant event, but it will be a good amount of snow.” He added that “typically we do see snow beginning in November so it is not unusual from that point of view, but of course the first one (snowfall) is always the toughest one because we have to learn how to drive all over again.”

It is expected that there will be ample snow to provide a light coating over the city by tomorrow morning which will not stick around for long as the temperature for this time of year is 5 C. Phillips stated that “certainly the snow from this one will not be the snow that we will be celebrating a white Christmas with in the GTA because it will come and go on several occasions before we get to the Christmas period.”
