Source close to the matter reveal that a report to be made public on Thursday will tarnish attempts of Porter Airlines to force a quick decision about its request to fly jets out of Toronto’s island airport, stalling the decision at least until 2015. Porter Airlines had sought permission to expand its network of routes out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport as it requires a green signal from the council to fly jets and to lengthen the runway into the water at both ends.

Downtown Councillor, Adam Vaughan, commented that “it’s way too complex, way too big and way too complicated. They cannot say yes to it with so many unanswered questions.” He alleged that Thursday’s report was supposed to be a final version, though many experts claim there are still many questions unanswered, including the noise levels of the proposed jets.  Commenting on the issue, Porter Airlines chief executive officer, Robert Deluce, alleged that the council has more than enough information to fully consider the matter now.

Mr. Deluce complained that “there’s some councillors that didn’t even want to study the issue,” though he alleged that he is hopeful that the executive committee would refer the issue to full council where his carrier’s position would be endorsed despite the report’s conclusions. In a statement, he mentioned that “we’re certainly optimistic that a majority of [the] executive committee and council will look at our proposal and see the value that comes to the city and travelling public and be willing to work toward making it happen in a timely manner.”
