Police on the Caribbean island have confirmed the news of a 53-year-old Aurora woman’s, Shirley Lewis-McFarlane, murder earlier this week in a busy Jamaican tourist town. In a statement issued on Thursday by the Jamaican Constabulary Force Supt., Yvonne Martin Daley, it was confirmed that the incident took place sometime on Monday.

Lewis-McFarlane was living in a rented home in Discovery Bay, on the north coast, over the past few weeks. Police received a call about the murder at around 4 p.m. on Monday, and later found her body upon visiting the home. Lewis-McFarlane’s 28-year-old daughter, Amanda, remembered her mother as being a loving woman who enjoyed spending time in the garden. Amanda alleged that “she was so full of life and tried to help anyone in need.” She recalled “my friends always called her their second mother. She loved all her kids, and would brag about us all the time, saying she is so lucky. But really mom we’re the lucky ones.” Amanda further added that “not only did I lose my mom, I lost my best friend in such a malicious way. It still doesn’t seem real, but it is and I’m counting on justice to be served.”

Martin Daley assured that the case is being given “priority attention,” while adding that detectives from Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, have been requested for assistance on the case. Martin Daley alleged that “there is some information we can’t give out because we do not want to compromise the investigation,” though she quickly added that “at the same time, we do want to quickly get to the bottom of this and solve the case.”
