Canadian Officials are once again stuck with yet another derailment of freight train carrying crude oil and propane which was set ablaze on Tuesday, but continues burning on Wednesday morning. The authorities are setting up to launch aerial surveillance while more than 100 residents are evacuated from their homes, though no deaths or injuries are reported.

The fire chief of the nearby community of Plaster Rock, Tim Corbin, was speaking to reporters on Wednesday morning when he mentioned that “the biggest concern is the propane cars.” He alleged that “that’s our biggest concern because if they happen to explode, we’re looking at major damage.” The derailment occurred on late Tuesday in a sporadically populated region of New Brunswick, once again highlighting the concerns about the increasing use of rail to transport oil throughout North America. More than 47 people were killed in the last incident when train carrying crude oil derailed in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, in July.

A spokesperson for the Canadian National Railway, Jim Feeny, alleged that the crews are using a helicopter to monitor the situation and figure out the source and extent of the fire. Feeny says he is coordinating with the disaster management associate with the Red Cross, Marc Belliveau, who has confirmed that the fire is still burning. According to Feeny, it seems like 15 cars and one locomotive are derailed, though the cause of the indent is still unknown. It was mentioned that “at this point, we haven’t determined to what extent each of those cars is involved.”
