Toddler Ingests Ecstasy Pill in Beaverton

A North Durham toddler required emergency medical attention after he ingested an ecstasy tablet in his residence over the weekend.

On Friday September 3, 2010 at approximately 7 p.m. officers from North Durham responded to an assist ambulance call in Beaverton involving a two-year-old child who had ingested an ecstasy pill in his residence. The parents of the toddler recognized symptoms requiring medical attention and immediately called 9-1-1. The child was transported to a local hospital in Orillia but was later transferred to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto for non-life-threatening injuries. The child was discharged from hospital on Sunday September 5, 2010.

Child welfare authorities were notified by DRPS officers and the investigation is ongoing.

Durham Regional Police Service would like to remind all parents and caregivers of young children and toddlers to keep all potentially harmful substances out of reach. Make sure that no items are left on coffee tables and ensure that all lever cupboards have childproof locks.
