The search for a 52-year-old high schoolteacher, Jeffrey Boucher, continued on Tuesday night in Whitby, where police were searching on the ground and with the use of helicopters to canvas the nearby forests. Authorities are told that Mr. Boucher left for a run on Monday morning and never returned, the search continued on Tuesday morning with use of additional resources.
A married father of two daughters, Mr. Boucher is a man of routine who gets up at 5:30 a.m. every morning, puts on his running clothes and leaves for his run at six. His 17-year-old daughter, Bettina, alleged that by the time she wakes up at 7:30 most days, her father has returned, showered and left for his day teaching business and geography at Bowmanville High School, less than half an hour away by car. However, Monday morning, he never returned and his cell phone and car were still there. She alleged “by 8 o’clock, we were freaking out” because he didn’t show up at work.
Director of corporate communications at Durham Regional Police, David Selby, update on late Tuesday that the investigation will continue overnight. The search was initiated right once after he was reported missing to police on Monday morning. Police has now acquired help from the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (OVERT) and a Durham Regional Police unit trained in ground search. Moreover, police is also using helicopters with thermal imaging cameras, canine units and officers on ATVs to navigate the rugged, ravine-filled terrain.
